Notes for William (Spouse 1)
Colonel William Aylett, was, before King William County was formed from King and Queen County, a land owner in Pumunkey Neck. William Aylett was the first King William County Court Clerk, serving as such from 1702 until his death, before 17 March 1733.

Like Nicholas II, Col. Aylett was a large landholder, including land in Pumunkey Neck, where Nicholas had made his first land patent.
Research notes for William (Spouse 1)
The book Adventures of Purse Person Virginia 1607-1624/5, Third Edition by Virginia M. Meyer and John Frederick Dorman identifies this William Aylett’s wife as Anne Woodward. However, the Aylett Letters, Francis T.A. Judkins Aylett Pedigree and etc. list her as Anne Taylor or Tayloe.

It is possible William married both women. The mortality rate being what it was in Virginia at that time (not a healthy place!) lots of people married more than once. It would be nice to find a will for this William (dated 1733 or so?). That would be a good way to solve this problem.

William Aylett was of Fairfield Plantation, King William County, Virginia. He was called colonel and served as "First Clerk" of King William County from 1702 to 1714. He was a member of the House of Burgesses of Virginia from 1723 to 1726 and a vestryman at St. John’s Parish in 1731.
