Introduction
COLONIAL MERIWETHER FAMILIES TREE
Nicholas Meriwether (1631–1678) was born and baptized in Norfolk County, England. About 1652 he immigrated to the Virginia Colony, working as Clerk of the Quarter Court for the Parliamentarian government. He bought land on Jamestown Island and Surry County, eventually marrying and moving his growing family to Surry in 1666.
Descendants of Nicholas organized The Meriwether Society in 1979. In 2017 the Society published the book, The Meriwether Family in America: Volume I, The Colonists, with a comprehensive review of everything then known about Nicholas and his children. In 2019 the Society confirmed the baptism records for Nicholas and five siblings, establishing his real English roots.
This online reference updates, corrects and extends the information found in the book. It covers the ancestors, siblings and four generations of descendants of Nicholas Meriwether (1631–1678) and his wives Elizabeth and Elizabeth. Plus links to connections such as Henry Hartwell, William Sherwood,, Richard Bennett, Henry and Thomas Woodhouse, etc.
