Notes for Unknown
The wife of Lancelot Bathurst is frequently stated to be Susannah Puckle (or, even more erroneously, Susannah Lane). This is evidently based on a 1910 article in The William & Mary Quarterly that gave abstracts of the English wills of Thomas Lane and his wife Mary Puckle. Mary had a sister named Susannah Bathurst who had a daughter also named Susannah. However, additional evidence has shown that this daughter was dead by 1734, possibly by 1723; Susannah and her mother were buried together at the Stepney Churchyard in England. Susannah (Bathurst) Stith (Mrs. Drury Stith), daughter of Lancelot Bathurst, did not die until 1745 and that was in Virginia, where she was born and lived.
