7) Elizabeth Meriwether, b. June 20, 1703, d. Jan. 1, 1725. Mar- ried Thomas Bray. They had at least one child, Elizabeth Bray, who married Philip Johnson in 1743. Issue of Eliza- beth Bray Johnson, seven children: Thomas Bray, William, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Thomas, Anne, and Martha Johnson. See Chapter XI, this volume.

Elizabeth Meriwether, b. 1703, d. 1725, seventh child of Nicholas II, m. Thomas Bray. That they had one daughter, Elizabeth Bray, is evident from specific mention of "my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Bray" by the will of her grandfather Nicholas Meriwether in 1744, leaving her "two Negro Boys by name Tom . . . and Tom . . . to be delivered her at her marriage. . . . October 1743 I have delivered those two to Mr. Philip Johnson her husband." They had five children: Thomas Bray, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Ann, and Martha Johnson. Two of their children—Thomas and Elizabeth— married a Meriwether cousin.

Bassett Hall
James Bray, grandfather of Thomas, a tract of land in Middle Plantation. In 1699, a portion of the estate was annexed during the formation of Williamsburg. Thomas inherited the remainder of the estate in 1725 and is believed to have built the original portion of the house now known as Bassett Hall.
