James Bray was a member of the House of Burgesses from James City county in 1688 and 1702, married about 1697 Mourning, widow of Thomas Pettus, of "Littletown" (York County Records). He died November 25, 1725, and his wife, Moruning, January 6, 1711 (Bruton Parish Register).

The will of James Bray was signed 18 Nov 1725, filed for probate on 14 Mar 1726 and completed on 2 Dec 1726. An inventory was completed on 3 Jan 1726.

James names his son, Thomas Bray, daughter Elizabeth Allen and husband, daughter Angelica Baker and husband, and grandson James Bray, who is apparently not the son of Thomas but of an older son.

Property mentioned include his plantation "Little Town", "Rockahock" Plantation, real estate in Wilmington and Bruton Parishes, the "Chickaominey Estate", and a Brick House and multiple lots in Williamsburg.

Elizabeth was given possession of "Little Town" until grandson James comes of age.
