Notes for Joseph Oglesby
He became a Methodist “circuit rider” in the area of the Miami River in soutwestern Ohio at the age of 22, and was the first Methodist minister in Cincinnati.18

The members of the Masonic fraternity turned out yesterday to bury the Rev. Joseph Oglesby of Louisville, Ky., formerly of this place.
Mr. Oglesby was one of the pioneers of the M. E. Church when Indiana was a wilderness, and was the first stationed preacher of his sect in the city of Cincinnati. The Rev. C. B. Parsons of Louisville preached an interesting and eloquent funeral sermon, in the Third street Methodist E. Church, yesterday morning.
