“The name of John Hite's wife is not known (although it is purported to be Elizabeth Talbot); and little is known about John Hite himself save the few facts that, born in 1754, he was left an orphan in 1758, is mentioned in the will of his grandfather Hans Jost Hite in 1758, was a trustee of Shepherdstown in 1796 and a merchant there, received 200 acres of land in Jefferson Co., Kentucky, by the will of his uncle Abraham Hite probated February 2, 1790 in that county, and was alive in Spetember 1809.” 18
