Mentioned in the will of grandfather, William Browne (M14a):

I give to my grand-daughter Rebecca Edloe one negro man named Daniel which I bought small and put into her father’s care the said negro being allotted for her brother Henry & is since given to her by his Will, and also a boy named Dick which was put into her father’s care to her & her heirs forever. Hello, I wonder if the following information ties in with your Rebecca Edloe.
Rebecca Edloe married William Carter, Sr. who was a surgeon at the Continental Hospital in Williamsburg from June 1, 1776 to the last of July 1781.
Rebecca Edloe was born in Charles City County, VA and died in 1773 and is buried at Shockoe Cemetery, Richmond, VA. They had five children: James Carter 1763, William Carter 1765, John Carter 1766, Jane How Carter 1768 [I have a question about this child]; Mary Edloe Carter, born March 1773, in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co. The other children were born in Williamsburg. The Carters were in Gloucester at Mrs. Batop's plantation for two years -1771-1773. William married again and had another child. He died in Richmond, VA, June 12, 1799 and is buried at St. John's Churchyard, VA.
I have Rebecca's father as John Edloe of James City who married Martha Hatcher April 1699 [Henrico]. His second wife is listed as -------- Bland. [R Bolling Batte Papers, VA State Library]
[At this moment, I cannot put my finger on the information, but I believe there is another Rebecca Edloe, dtr of Philip Edloe?]
If this is of interest to you, I can provide my sources - Not all is accurate because some information comes from Williamsburg reports, etc. I also have tenuous ties to ancestors of each-still a work in progress. My interest lies in Mary Edloe Carter who married a Joseph Jackson-the Jackson's are just about impossible to trace.

Unfortunately, the information I have on Rebecca Edloe and her parents, Henry Edloe and Jane Browne, is very sketchy, including an appalling lack of dates. It is possible that their daughter Rebecca was the wife of William Carter. Her grandmother, Jane (Meriwether) Browne was born about 1675, so I estimate her mother, Jane (Browne) Edloe would have been born between 1695 and 1720 or so. This leads to a birth date of 1730-1750 or so for Rebecca, easily allowing for her to marry by 1763.
Thanks for the references. We are actually trying to start research on this particular line soon and will let you know if we find a connection.

ps If Rebecca married about 1760, she was probably born about 1740 (assuming married about 20). If John Edloe married in 1699, that's a 41 year difference between his marriage and the birth of Rebecca. Not impossible, but seems to be stretching the probability factor... I have seen references to a Rebecca, dau of Phillip Edloe. She is believed to have married a William Clinch, according to the references I just checked on the web. For whatever that is worth... :)
