Will of Reuben Skilton 613
In the name of God Amen. I Reu: Skilton of Gochland County do make this my last will & testament in manner following
first I devise that all my just debts be paid out of my Estate by the Executor hereinafter named.
Item I give & devise unto my dear wife Elizabeth my whole Estate both real & personal to her and her heirs forever. But in case I should survive my said wife, & not have any knowledge of her death as I intend for Great Brittain, whereby my Estate would descend to my elder Brother, whom I do not intend to prefer. In such case I give & devise my whole estate both real & personal to my younger Broyr & his Heirs forever.
Item I hereby apoint my friend Colo Will: Randolph my whole & sole Executor hereby revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I hereunto Set my hand and affix my Seal this 15 day of May 1759.

Reuben Skelton was son of James Skelton of Essex county, Virginia, who contracted to rebuild the capitol in Williamsburg and died in 1754. Reuben Skelton was clerk of St. Paul’s parish, Hanover county, and a member of the house of burgesses in 1758, 1759. He died before 1760. He married Elizabeth Lomax, who married (secondly) John Wayles, of Charles City county, father-in-law of Thomas Jefferson. 614

Reuben Skelton was clerk of St. Paul’s parish, Hanover county, and a member of the house of burgesses in 1758, 1759. He died before 1760. Reuben "was a clerk of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover, and a member of the House of Burgesses, 1758-1759. A will of his, apparently unexecuted, dated 15 May 1759, is found pasted in the back of the Parish Register of St. James Northam, Goochland county. In this will he says that he does not wish to prefer his elder brother, but in the case of the death of his wife, he wishes his estate to go to his younger brother, (Bathurst). He married July 9th, 1751, Elizabeth, daughter of Lunsford Lomax. His widow, Elizabeth, married July 23rd, 1760, John Wayles." His marriage to Miss Lomax took place in Middlesex County. It is inferred that there was no known issue from this marriage. He was a clerk of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover Co., VA, and a member of the House of Burgesses, 1758-1759.
