He had a plantation on Mechunck Creek in Louisa County, Virginia, near its line with Albemarle Co. He died in middle age about Oct 1758, since his will was presented in court Nov 1758. 395

Mary was a daughter of Col. Robert Lewis and Jane Meriwether. Birth dates for Mary range from 1730 to 1735. She was not mentioned in the 27 Apr 1734 gift of slaves from her father, so the Society is tentatively accepting a date of about 1735. This makes her about 16 when she first married, so an earlier date is certainly possible.
Mary married Samuel Cobbs about 1751; they were the parents of three known children: Robert Lewis, Jane and Judith Cobbs.
Samuel died about 1758 and in Dec 1766 Mary married Waddy Thomson (~1725–1801) in Albemarle County. They were the parents of five known daughters: Ann Lewis, Mary, Mildred, Judith and Susanna.
Mary died in 1813 and is believed to be buried on the family farm on Ivy's creek in Albemarle County.

Mary Lewis, wife, first, of Samuel Cobbs and second of Waddy Thomson, died in Albemarle County in 1813. Her Cobbs children were Robert Cobbs, who married Ann Poindexter, descendant of whom were numerous in Virginia and the South; Judith Cobbs, who died young; and Jane Cobbs, wife of John Waddy, the only child of whom was Samuel Waddy, who was reared in the household of his maternal grandmother.
