Notes for Robert Lewis II
Robert Lewis of Granville served as Delegate from Granville to the Constitutional Convention which met in Halifax, NC on Nov 12, 1776. He was later commissioned as “Colonel of the Granville Militia”.

In 1762, Robert received the bulk of the property owned by his grandmother, Elizabeth (Crawford) Meriwether.

In 1762, Robert received the bulk of the property owned by his grandmother, Elizabeth (Crawford) Meriwether. From her will:

Item. I do give and bequeath unto my grandson Robert Lewis, son of Col. Robert Lewis, the plantation whereon I now live together with the three Hundred Acres of Land I Bought of Mrs. Jane Chapman to him and his heirs forever.

Item. I do give and bequeath unto my grandson Robert Lewis, son of Robert Lewis, six hundred acres of Land I took up myself joining the land I bought of Mrs. Jane Chapman to him & his heirs forever.

Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Grandson Robert Lewis, son of Robert Lewis, Four Hundred acres of Land I bought of James Lasley to him and his heirs forever.

Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Grandson Robert Lewis, son of Robert Lewis, six cows & calves & six sows & pigs to him and his heirs forever.

^CHILD: NHM and Sorely had Dr. John Augustine Lewis, who married Rebecca Lattimer, and Richard as sons of Robert & Frances. Cook states this is incorrect and replaces them with Robert and William, as shown.414
