MERIWETHER-L@rootsweb.com In a genealogy of the Pollard family written by Benj. R. Pollard the following is written about his mother.
"My father married Miss Sally, or Sarah HARDING, whose mother died while she was an infant. She was raised by Mr. and Mrs. MEREWETHER the grandfather and mother of David H., George, and Lewis Meriwether, of the city of Louisville and vicinity. My mother had three half- brothers, towit: William, Giles, and Thomas HARDING. They settled and lived in the vicinity of Nashville, Tenn. where they raised families and were quite wealthy. Mother had 13 children, towit: Francis, Joseph, Sarah, Ann, Priscilla, Thomas, Mary, Robert, Elizabeth, Mildred, William, Jane and Benjamin Ryland POLLARD."
Why was Sally Harding raised by William (1730-1790) and Martha (1732-1801)(Wood) Meriwether? Was she related to them?
NOTE: You have probably, by now, figured out the answers to your questions regarding Sarah Harding being raised by William Meriwether (Dec 25, 1730-Dec 24, 1790) and Martha Cox "Patty" Wood, but I offer this for the record. William and Martha were married Jul 21, 1751 and Sarah Harding was born about 1746, so she must have lived for a while in the household of her father, William Harding, and her stepmother Sarah La Force, who were married Nov 7, 1748. Sarah Harding was the first cousin of Martha Cox "Patty" Wood. Martha Cox Wood’s mother was Martha Cox. Martha Cox’s sister was Edith Cox, the mother of Sarah Harding.
