Sherwood purchased “Island House” on Jamestown Island in 16__ from Francis Meriwether, who had inherited from his father, Nicholas I. When Sherwood died in 1697, the property went to Edward Jaqueline. It eventually was acquired by Richard Ambler and many documents associated with the land may be found in the Ambler papers at the Library of Congress.
