Richard Bennet accompanied served as the governor of the Virginia Colony 1652-1655, replacing Gov. William Berkley when the Parliamentary Fleet arrived and secure the surrender of the Colony to the Cromwellian government. Nicholas Meriwether served as one of the Clerks of the Quarter Court under Bennet.
