Moved from Oldham County, Kentucky, to Greene County, Missouri, in about 1852 with a brother (?), William T. Both were fairly prosperous landholders and slave owners. Meredith’s place was just north of the Wilson Creek battle site. By family accounts, killed by bushwhackers at home; but according to letter from executor of his estate (Chesley Cannafax, brother in law), killed in Arkansas. Very likely a Southern sympathizer who left Springfield in 1861 when the Confederate armies left (as another brother-in-law, Ben Cannafax, did) and was killed somewhere other than Greene County.

Bought 120 acres 25 Sep 1854 according to Springfield Land Office Sales Book 1833-1892; don’t know when he got the other 160 acres.
