• JOHN DOTY, the elder son of Edward Doty and wife Sarah, was married, probably in Somerset County, N.J., but the name of his wife has never been learned, due no doubt, to the fact that a great many of the records of this part of the State were destroyed by the British Army during the Revolutionary War. However, the military records has him listed as a private in Captain Jacob TenEyck's Company, First Battalion, Somerset County Militia. They probably lived in Somerville, N.J., where he died about 1778.3393, p 9
