• Ezekiel Spicer, senior, was born in the Mohawk Valley in 1730, came to Upper Canada in 1784, and settled near the hamlet of Johnstown, apparently where the present United Church now stands. The first Levee held by Governor John Graves Simcoe in Upper Canada was reported as having been held on the lawn of Ezekiel Spicer.1830, p 1
