Individual Notes
• Abel Jay, his wife Ann and several of his children with their families moved to the Little Canada Settlement south of Smith’s Creek in St. Clair Co., MI near the farm occupied by their daughter Polly and husband Elias C. Williams. Some of them are buried in the Williams Family Cemetery, Sec. 1 of Columbia Twp, St. Clair Co., Mi. [3014, p 2]

• Abel Jay Hubbell was the son of Abel Hubbell of Fairfield CT and unknown wife. It has been difficult to get a solid genealogy on Abel Jay, and I am glad to share what I know. [3017]

• One of the things I have been busy with is locating Canada Settlement in St. Clair County, MI. I have found it and I have located the cemetery that Abel Jay Hubble is buried in alongside his 2nd wife, Ann Reddick.
I am going to attach a picture of Abel’s stone. It is not very clear, but if you look closely, you will see his name is spelled A-B-L-E. That is the first spelling I had received, but was told by many that my spelling was wrong. [3102]
General
• I think it’s interesting that a US citizen moved to Canada in the immediate aftermath of the War of 1812. The two countries were really not on pleasant terms at the time.
[They] settled in Northumberland Co., Cramahe Township. This is out near Port Hope and Cobourg, Ontario, just a bit East of them.
I know his children were born in a village called Myrtle, just north of Whitby, Ontario, where the Hubbell family owned a farm from the early 1800s until the early 1900s. The farm was still there as of 1992 or so, about the last time I was there, although suburban development was making its way in. There is a Hubbell graveyard at the edge of the property, where some of AJ’s descendants are buried. [3018]
