2477, p 11• William3 served as a Judge of Probate for North and South Groton, Stonington, and North Stonington and was often referred to as Judge Williams. Fortunately for posterity, his account book of court cases between 1761 and 1769 still exists, giving an insight into local misdemeanors, squabbles, and land disagreements and their resolutions.
2476, p 221• William3, in his meticulous manner while serving as Justice of the Peace, recorded the marriages he performed in Groton between 1748 and 1784 in a small handmade cloth booklet. This booklet is perhaps the only record of some of these marriages.
