• The first Williams in New London was William, who is in the rate list of 1664. He lived on the east, or Groton side of the river, and died in 1704, leaving four sons and a daughter.3001, p 349
• William Williams arrived in America in 1662 and chose New London County to settle in. He lived “east of the River.”4240, p 106
• William Williams, Welshman, from Wales, born about ___?___, died 1704; married Arabella Thompson. He came to America in 1662 and settled in New London County, Conn., in 1663. He lived in that section of the Town east of the Thames River, which was incorporated as the Town of Groton in May 1705. This particular portion was taken from Groton in May 1836 and was made the Town of Ledyard.
He was the first of his surname in New London, but at a later date several others of the name located there, but appear in no way connected.2477, p 4
