• Francis Holmes was probably born in York County, England about 1600 and came to America about 1635 settling first in Massachusetts, then removing to Stamford, Connecticut. It appears that he lived in Stamford in 1648 as he gave testimony against one Robert Pennoyer for drinking wine and becoming noisy and turbulent and abusing the watchman.

2649, p 1• FRANCIS HOLMES of Stamford, Connecticut, died there between 27 June 1673, when he was named as a fence viewer, and 3 March 1675/6, when his heirs made a distribution agreement. His first wife, mother of his children, remains unidentified.
34, p 266• Francis’s will, on record at Fairfield, Conn., dated Sept. 6, 1671, makes mention of his wife ann and his children Stephen, John, Richard, and Ann, wife of Samuel Dean. She is said to have died about 1765, and to have been his 2nd wife and not the mother of [his] children.
