• John was raised in Guilford, New Haven Co., Conn. He served in King Philip’s War in 1675/6 and in 1678 received a colonial grant of 100 acres, for loss of a finger. He was called eldest son indeed from his father. In 1679 his father gave him a lot of land. In 1682 he bought land from his father. On 13 Feb 1683 the town of Derby, New Haven Co., Conn. granted him 50 acres. He lived there a time then moved back to Stratford. He was Lieut. for expedition to Albany in 1690, where he died of smallpox. (Indians took his uniform and got smallpox.)3210,3208, p 50
