Individual Notes
• ...and settled in Spencer when the township was an unbroken wilderness.
2239, p 5• It becomes our duty to announce the death of one of the pioneers of this township, Mr. Charles Daugherty, which took place December 6th, 1873, ages 76 years. He came here forty years ago, settling near the Center, where he lived on the same farm until his death. He was one of the first settlers at the Center, and helped to clear up and improve the place. While many privations started the earliest settlers in the face, yet he lived to see his farm in a good state of cultivation, with abundance of fruit, and plenty of all the necessaries and luxuries of life. His disease was cancer on the hand and under the arm. He had been a great sufferer for two years, and was well and faithfully cared for by his companion and children. The funeral was largely attended on the 8th inst.
2239, p 8 & 9• Charles Daugherty came from N. Y. State to Medina County in 1833, bought a farm of 400 or 500 acres, on which he settled his family in 1835.
