• A memorial service for Bruce E. Lesher, the retired owner of a trucking and warehousing company, will be held at 11 am tomorrow at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7001 Harford Rd.
Mr. Lesher, who was 96 and lived in the 6900 block Chambers Road, died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital after an illness of several months.
He sold his business, the B Lesher Company to the Canton Company and retired in 1970. He started the company, which cleaned freight cars for the Baltimore & Ohio railroad in addition to trucking, warehousing and other businesses, in 1930.
Mr Lesher was a life member of the Traffic Club of Baltimore.
Earlier, he worked for the B&O, starting as a brakeman and becoming a yardmaster.
His wife, the former Lula M. Rink, died in 1980.
He is survived by a son, Homer W. Lesher, of Baltimore; three daughters, Ruth B. Donat, of Baltimore, Doris E. Sorenson of Lutherville, and Edna M. Reinig of Lakewood, Ca; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.8807

• You’re right. I looked at my mom’s original notes and that’s what she had. I called her and she is sure that Bruce was the youngest. The Ss death Index has his date of birth as 1886, so I think it’s Maud’s date that is incorrect. My mother said she doesn’t remember anything about Maud. In case you are going to dig into this, she could only tell me that Clara May (who went by May) was living in San Diego around 1952. Bruce paid for my mom and grandmother to take the train to California to stay with your grandmother for a month after your Uncle Neil passed away. My mom remembers visiting May during that trip. She thinks that May and Maud might have been living together in California after one or both were widowed.
I’m still not sure that Bruce’s date is wrong. I’m looking through Aunt Edna’s letters to my mom. In two seperate letters she mentions calling Bruce on his birthday, Nov 26th. She also says in another letter, “I talked to Lula about it and the reason Bruce doesn’t know much, he was the youngest and he lived with my mother after she and Pap were married.
Here’s another tidbit from one of her letters:
“He (H.P. Lesher) and your grandfather’s mother, who I call Mother Sheaffer, lived in Steelton, PA when they separated. I don’t know to this day how Maud Kohl and May Griffin got west, and I think Bruce and Keller must have lived with the father. Some years ago Maud’s oldest daughter wrote to find out her mother’s (Maud Lesher Kohl) father’s name. She needed date information for some papers she had to fill out.
So something is obviously off with the years, but I still think Bruce is the youngest and that the day of birth is correct. My mom also said that you can see in pictures that Maud is older than Bruce, but I can’t find the pictures right now.8866
