Mrs. Lou Rucker 93 Years of Age
Celebration today of the 93rd birthday of Mrs. Lou Ellen Rucker will be held at 8 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas W. Oglesby, 701 Clay street, where she makes her home.
No invitations have been sent out for "Granny" Rucker's birthday, but members of the family and her friends are expected to call and offer her felicitations and have a piece of her birthday cake. Reminiscences are dear to her heart and she remembers events of importance in the history of this section of the state.
Daughter of Captain John A. Harris and Anne Jordan Harris, who was chief engineer of the James River-Kanawha Canal. She was born February 22, 1846, in Richmond and she is the widow of Joshua Tinsley Rucker of Bedford County, who died in 1916. He was a lieutenant in the War Between the States, having fought for the whole four years with Kirkpatrick's Battery.
One of a family of seven children, Mrs. Rucker and a brother John H. Harris, of Louisville, Ky., are the only two living. She has five children: Walton T. Rucker, Mrs. Thomas W. Oglesby and John T. Rucker of Lynchburg; William H. Rucker of Boonsboro, and Frank W. Rucker of Beckley, W. Va. There are 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
