Notes for Joseph Oglesby
“This family is said to have lived in Fluvania Co., Va., prior to 1796-97 when, with other Oglesby kinsmen, they moved to Jefferson Co., Ky. Jemima Douglas Attkisson was one of the early Blakey family historians. The account of this family and of their descndants is taken from “My Father’s Family” by Jemima’s g-dau, Edith (Attkisson) Rudder, who records the family tradition: “five Attkisson brothers married five Oglesby sisters, their first cousins,” however she here names only four of them. Why George Blakey and Ann Haden Blakey, children of Thomas and Anne (Hayden) Blakey, of Buckingham Co., Ca., were born in Culpeper Co., Va., is unexplained. Mrs. Rudder’s account, in “My Father’s Family,” differs somewhat from the information furnished by her to Mrs. Kress, we believe reflecting further research and her more considered opinion throughout the line.”
