He was chosen deacon of the Congregational church, June 22, 1780, and served in that capacity seventeen years and upward, until his decease, which transpired October 1, 1797, when in his fifty-seventh year.3785, p 80

• I must admit that the problem of the two Phebe Posts is a genealogical riddle which has yet to be solved. When I wrote the current article in the Register I followed Rev. Frederick W. Chapman’s The Chapman Family (Hartford, 1854), p. 80 which assigns the wife of Caleb Chapman, Jr. as Phebe, dau. of Nathan(4) and Hannah (Barnes) Post. This seemed logical to me as Caleb’s sister Sarah Chapman married Phebe’s brother Christopher Post. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Rev. Chapman was necessarily correct. I understand that a copy of Donald E. Poste’s manuscript on the Post family was donated to the Connecticut Historical Society, unfortunately after I had completed my own research there on the Posts.4334
