• Peter Doty, the youngest of the James Doty family to grow to maturity, was married at Mansfield, Ohio, Apr. 27, 1870 to Arvilla Parsel, born at Plymouth, Ohio, Apr. 24, 1851. She was the daughter of William Parsel and Martha Kirkpatrick. They established their home at Plymouth, Ohio, where they lived until the spring of 1879 when they moved to Pottawattomie Co., Iowa. After four years of residence there they moved to South Dakota, where they lived until his death on Jul. 10, I883. He had been an invalid the last eight years of his life. Their three eldest sons were born in Ohio, the youngest in Iowa. The widow married again Oct. 1, I883, to Hanson Mills who was accidentally burned to death Oct, 19, 1885.3393, p 18

• Anna and George Mills were aged respectively 7 and 13 years when Hance Mills died in October, 1883. Soon after this the second Mrs. Mills took the infant and disappeared.889
• [excerpts] Mrs. A. Milne, a pioneer of Bemidji, died of typhoid fever, March 1, 1902, at St. Anthony’s hospital, after a short illness. She leaves behind her a husband, two sons, and one daughter to mourn her untimely demise.
Arbilla E. Parsell was born at Plymouth, Ohio, April 24, 1852. She was married in 1870 to Peter Doty, who died in South Dakota in 1887 to which state they moved in 1883. She married Alex Milne a few years previous to their coming to Bemidji.897
