• On May 24th, 1723, succeeded to the estates of James Saunderson, Earl of Castleton. For this reason he added the name of Saunderson to his own, and as such succeeded his brother in 1740. He was a Knight of the Bath, and Envoy Extraordinary to Portugal. His wife was Frances, second daughter of George Hamilton, Earl of Orkney, and to them were born two sons, Richard and George, and three daughters.2152, p 16
