• He graduated from the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J. and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from IBM in 1990 after 40 years of service.3943
• Beloved Uncles and Aunts,
It is with extreme sadness that I must tell you that our beloved father, George Beringer Schaeffer Jr., passed away at about 9:30 pm last night, Monday evening, March 18, 2012.
My mother, Diane, Skip, Christine, Christine’s husband Bob, and I were all with him until shortly before he passed. Our Pastor came to see him, and we were able to pray together for a bit. Christine and Skip stayed with Dad while the rest of us went home for the night, but Dad only lasted a short while longer. He had been sleeping quietly, and he just stopped breathing. Fortunately we were able to return to the hospital to make our final goodbyes last night.
We will be making funeral arrangements some time today. We expect Susan and Janet to be with us today or tomorrow.
We give thanks to God for our father’s life, and we ask for your continued prayers in our time of sorrow.

LaGrange – George Beringer Schaeffer, Jr., of the Town of LaGrange, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 86.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice, his children: Susan (Craig), Alice Marie, Diane, George B. III (Helene), Janet, Christine (Robert) and by eight grandchildren.
Born in Secaucus, NJ, he was a WWII era Navy Veteran and graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a mechanical engineering degree. He was a member of the Stevens “Old Guard.” He worked for IBM for 40 years in NYC, Endicott, and Poughkeepsie as a customer engineer and market planner. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fishkill. George was a farmer at heart and loved to plant and tend trees and vegetables.
Interment will follow at LaGrange Rural Cemetery.3952

• Alice teaches Sunday School and is a member of Lutheran Women’s Groups.3943
• Aunt Alice’s mother’s family in Höpfigheim, Germany (near Stuttgart), has a very complete family tree going back four generations before Aunt Alice’s mother was born in 1898. We have visited them twice, in 1988, and 1991, and the NAFZGER family still lives in the house where Aunt Alice’s mother was born!! The whole family, except for one cousin, all in the same “hometown” since 1900, and before!! While the Schaeffers have long since left Jersey City, N. J; I hope we can go as far back, no matter where located, as Aunt Alice’s mother’s family.3703
• She gave me the full family history line that a cousin in Germany put together. It will be coming in that package I’ll send.3945
• A special song written by Miss Alice Meyer was sung by Misses Pauline and Alice Meyer and Misses Jeanne and Lillian Humburg. Miss Lillian Humburg organist of the Sunday School led in community singing.3946
• Miss Alice M. Meyer, daughte rof Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer, of 5 Myrtle Ave, Secaucus, was honored at a surprise miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. George B. Schaeffer and her daughter, Miss Nancy Schaeffer, at their home, 268 Centre Ave. on Sunday, May 30th.
Gifts for the bride to be were in a wishing well decorated in pink. A pink sprinkling can, on the fireplace nearby, carried out the shower idea. First gift out of the well, was a pink corsage, from her fiancee, Mr. George B. Scaheffer Jr. Their marriage will take place on SAturday, September 11 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
At the same time the groom elect was honored at a surpriser pantry shelf shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Meyer on Myrtle Ave. After the pantry shower the men joined in the festivities at the Schaeffer home.
The table was decorated with pinnk carnations, and ferns, lighted with pink candles. THe centerpiece was a large white cake, similar to a wedding cake (except that it was decorated with pink frosting roses, surmounted with a miniature bride and groom.) Miss Meyer and Mr. Schaeffer were seated under a white wedding bell. Favors for the ladies were artificial corsages.3947
• Miss Alice Meyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer, 5 Myrtle Ave, was married Saturday, September 11 to Mr. George Schaeffer, son of Assemblyman and Mrs. George B. Schaeffer, 268 Centre Ave, in St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The bride wore a gown of ivory satin, with long sleeves, lace front and scalloped train. She wore a headpiece of lace and orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of white roses and lillies of the valley.
The bride’s maid of honor was her sister, Miss Pauline Meyer. Bridesmaids were the Misses Ruth and Rose Marie Meyer and Miss Karen Van Alstyne. Miss Kathlyn Meyer was flower girl and Pembroke Scaheffer was ring bearer.
The attendants wore gowns of pink taffeta with matching hats. They carried old fashioned bouquets.
The groom’s best man was Mr. Neil Kasten. Mr. Donald Schaeffer, Mr. Nicholas Garrity, Mr. H. Degelmann and Mr. Gordon Schaeffer were ushers.
A reception for friends and relatives was held at the Robin Hood Inn, Clifton.
After a tour of Pennsylvania and Washington D.C., the couple will stop in Churchill, Maryland to visit the bride’s aunt. They will reside at 7 Myrtle Avenue on their return.3947
