Individual Notes
• Enlisted, 1776, in Capt. John Cook’s company, Colonel Brown’s Virginia regiment. He applied for a pension, 1834, from Pulaski County, Kentucky, where he died. [1985]

• While residing in Augusta County, Virginia, William Owens volunteered sometime in June, 1776, served six months as private in Captain John Cook’s company, Colonel Brown’s Virginia regiment. While residing in Montgomery County, Virginia, he volunteered sometime in March, 1778, served nine months as first sergeant in Captain James Newall’s company, Colonel Preston’s Virginia regiment. He continued to serve at various times until after the surrender of Cornwallis, in Captain James Maxwell’s company, Colonel Preston’s regiment, length of this service about twelve months. During his service he was stationed at several forts on the frontier, was engaged in scouting and ranging against the Indians, and in frequent skirmishes.
William Owens continued to live in Montgomery and Wythe Counties, Virginia, until sometime in 1796, then moved to Russell County, and in 1803, moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky.
He was allowed pension of his application executed January 20, 1834, at which time he was a resident of Pulaski County, Kentucky. [1991, p 1]
