Individual Notes
• The Hon. Daniel Davis, yeoman, Esq., was a Judge of Probate in Barnstable County after 1776, replacing David Gorham, his wife’s second cousin, who became unpopular because of his Loyalist sympathies. [See #264] Daniel Davis also served as Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas from 1770 on, and was a member of the first three Provinicial Congresses. He was a captain of the First Regiment of militia in Barnstable during the Revolutionary War.
In spite of diligent searching in both Plymouth and Barnstable Counties, the probate records for Daniel Davis mentioned by Maclean W. McLean have not been found.3097, p 296
