Individual Notes
• He came to Chicago in 1871, and after a stay of several weeks went to Wisconsin, where he was engaged in railroad surveying for four years, when he came to Evanston, in 1875, and first worked for W. T. Shepherd, florist, whom he bought out and has since carried it on for himself. Mr. Forster was married to Miss Fredrika Schlucter [sic] of Gosler, Germany, February 14, 1876, in Chicago. They have four children: George H., Annie L., William J., and Charles R.
3893, p 443• They had four children all born in Evanston, IL (like my mother and I). They owned greenhouses and a landscaping service and moved to Pasadena, CA to retire and to landscape the Armour estate (which John had done in Lake Forest, IL also. They had returned to Evanston for a visit in 1926 when John died in our apartment so he is buried in Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago on my grandfather Smart’s plot, but Friedricke returned to California and is buried at Forest Lawn in LA.
