• He was much employed in public affairs, and one of the most prominent individuals of the town in his day. He was judge of the county court and court of probate; was elected assistant of the Upper House of the General Court, 1703; retired 1723. He left a large estate. 10 chn. His first wife was Lucretia Bradley (Elizabeth3 Brewster, Jonathan2, Wm.1). [627, p 16]

• He was an Assistant in the Connecticut Col. Government, Judge of New London County Court, Judge of Probate for the District of New London, Judge of the Superior Court of Connecticut and Town Clerk of New London. [669, p 334]

• [He] was a merchant trading between New London and Barbadoes and other West Indian ports; he was a practical mariner also, making frequent voyages in command of his own ships in the prosecution of his commerical ventures. [670, p 9]
