Individual Notes
• He resided on the old homestead in Barnstable. He was with his brother John at Cape Breton and the taking of Louisburg, and was engaged in other military services. In the time of the Revolution some charged him with being a tory, as he would not advocate some extreme measures, but the charge was unjust. For many years he was Register of Probate for the County of Barnstable, was much in public life, and was an energetic and capable man.3370, p 520

• Since Col. David Gorham was considered a Loyalist during the Revolution, he was apparently relieved of his military commission after the patriots won the war. It would appear that Col. David Gorham, called “Esq.” after the Revolutionary War, had only two wives, Abigail Sturgis and Hannah (Davis) Davis.3097, pp 355-6
