Individual Notes
• It is probable that William Holt was not one of the very first settlers at New Haven. His name suddenly appears upon the records of the New Haven colony on July 1st, 1644 as one of the signers of the Revised Constitution. After that time his name appears in the records, so that it is fair to assume that he arrived in New Haven shortly before 1644. The question as to where he came from, has always been an interesting one. That he was of English descent there is no doubt, and that he was born in England appears probable, but how and when he came and in what company, has always been a mystery. [314, p 314]

• About 1643 William Holt arrived in the New Haven (Conn.) Colony. There is no record of his departure for these shores, but there is a feeling by some that he was the William Holt who sailed from England, in 1635, on the ship Truelove to Bermuda. It is known that many of the Bermuda settlers later came to New England. Attempts have been made to trace this in Bermuda, and Barbados where he has also been placed, but without success because of the scarcity of early records, there and in New England. However, ancestor William Holt is noted in the New Haven records from 1 Jul 1644, when he was one of the signers of the Revised Constitution and Governor Eaton administered the oath of Free Burgess to him and others. [2431, p 7]

• He left no will. [312, p 232]
