• “Brother” Draper mentioned in Martin family Bible as being “of Revolutionary War fame.” Brother of Lydia Draper, wife of Adonijah Bass. Quoting from Anita Gauthier, Assistant Director, The Bennington Museum, Bennington, Vermont, “The son, Jonathan, b. 28 Feb 1757 may be the Revolutionary soldier you refer to in your letter. He is listed in our Bennington card file as being such and his death date is given as 30 Dec 1816. The sources for this information are The Vermont Gazette, 30 Dec 1816, and the “Henry Clay Day Papers,” Book I, p. 22. (The Day Papers are a collection of scrapbooks, historical writings and memoranda, compiled by Dr. Day when he resided in Bennington in the nineteenth century.) Neither the Gazette nor the Day Papers contain a death notice or obituary. In the Vermont Gazette, 30 Dec 1816 there is this notice: ‘Died at Shaftsbury, on Wednesday last, Ruth, an infant child of Jonathan Draper, aged six months.’” [Note: this child probably daughter of Jonathan Draper, born abt 1780.]2386
