• On Dec. 2, 1800 Catharine “Nicklinson”, daughter of William Martin UE, says that she is married and has no land. She signs with an X. In the 1802 Wolford Town Book is Robert Nicholson age 56 (if I read it right), Catharine 34, Phebe 14 and Robert Jr. 11. The 1803 book has Cynthia age 35 instead of Catharine (probably an error) and added to the family is Rachel 2.

• Norman Walsh says that his great-grandfather, Robert Nicholson, was living in Hoosick District, Albany County, New York, in 1777. He refused to join the rebels, who in consequence seized his land and stock and put him in jail. He eventually escaped (as so many others seem to have done!) and joined Jessup’s Corps, serving as a scout.
From 1777 to 1784 Mr. Walsh knows little, but at the end of hostilities Robert Nicholson went to Augusta Township with other loyalists and was granted the west half of lot 4, concession 1, 111 acres on the river. He married Catharine Martin, youngest daughter of William Martin, a UEL from the Hudson River who was granted lot 6, conc. 1, Augusta.1715, p 3
