• They lived in Grand Haven, Michigan where Charles had a grocery store. The other half of the building was a dry good store operated by his brother Fred Zellar.
760, p 1• He was very active in his church (First Reformed Church [in Grand Haven]). He was a Sunday School teacher and deacon.
In 1929 through a neighbor, he was introduced to the Church of God which has its headquarters in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. Each year they have a camp meeting in June. He came and brought his family. He was excited with what he saw and decided to sell his grocery store, move to Anderson and enter seminary.
One month after entering school, the stock market fell. He had no money, no job and had to drop out of school never to return again.
