Individual Notes
• Her name is Agnes. She was a very good cook, and she not only had learned Swedish cooking, but she had learned Southern cooking, too. But she cooked a lot of good Swedish things, and she carried on the traditions of the family like having lutefisk at Christmas, and, what else did we have, duppagrata, and that was where you cooked a lot of different meats in one pan, one pan with a lot of water on it, and put sausage in it and then at midnight on Christmas Eve, I guess it was, yes, you cut up this meat and you each had some of the meat in your, you had a soup bowl, and you had some of this broth that the meat was cooked in there, and you then had rye bread, and you dipped, that was the duppa...duppagrata, you dipped into the gravy stuff with your rye bread, and you ate the meat and the sausage and stuff with this rye bread. It was good.64
