• I hope this letter reaches the above as I am interested in obtaining some background information on Dr. Oliver C. Ormsby, a physician who practices medicine in Brigham City and Logan, Utah and later moved his practice to Rexburg, Idaho. I have finished a rough draft of an article on Dr. O. C. Ormsby that focuses primarily on his time in Cache Valley from 1872 to 1900. Tentatively I have entitled it – “Dr. Oliver C. Ormsby, The Dean of Early Cache Valley Doctors” – with my intention to place it on the Internet possibly in the Cache County, Utah Roots Web site.5741
• In one of the histories of Utah there is an article prepared by Dr. Oliver Ormsby, who passed through Sessions Settlement when he was twelve years old, on the way to California. Quote from history: “Major William Ormsby and his brother John S. Ormsby, left Pennsylvania in 1849 and went to California. Early in 1852 Major Ormsby went back to Pennsylvania to bring his and his brother’s families to California. There were about one hundred souls in the company and they were fitted out with the finest horses and equipment. However, when they reached Salt Lake, they had lost all of their horses and carriages and remained in Salt Lake two weeks to rest and recruit.”
• I received your attachment and thank you for going the extra mile. I have seen the Sessions cemetery article and picture previously. Dr. O.C. Ormsby’s first wife died in child birth after very short period of married life. He married Maretta while living in Brigham City and then his plural wife Rebecca Jane. He maintained both wives in Logan for over a decade with 3 arrests and one conviction. In the 1910 census he had one at Rexburg, Idaho and the other at Salt Lake City with the Doctor listed as head of both households.5766
• He left his family in California and moved to Utah where he embraced the Mormon faith. He became the personal physician to Brigham Young.5777
