• The family story is that he was the first anglo baby seen by the villagers of Guayaquil, who called him by the honorific "Don Luis".  He was known as "Don" for the rest of his life.  Served as a medical navy lieutenant commander in country and in the South Pacific until his release in 1946.  Was a pathologist and brought his work home, working out of the maid's room in the basement of his house.  Was interested in taking color slides of specimens and often did this at home.  Was a partner at Western Laboratory in Oakland California.
Was a member of Alpha Lambda fraternity as was his father.  Graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1932 and graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1937.  Other medical affiliations included:
