Individual Notes
• John Maxson was a native of R. I. and was of the second generation in America. No descendants of his parents, other than the descendants of John Maxson, have been discovered.1054

• There is a tradition recorded in the diary of G. H. Richardson, now in the collections of the Newport Historical Society, which reads: “Today, Dec. 20, 1720, died John Maxson Sr., age 82 yrs. He lost his father and brother Richard who were attacked and killed by the Indians. Mrs. Maxson escaped in a shallop to Acquetneck and her son was born soon after the landing in the spring of 1638 before the purchase of the island from the Indians. He was the first white child born on the island of Rhode Island.”1054

• In Will of John Mosher is stated “to children of deceased daughter Dorothy Clarke, each 40 shillings, viz., to Freegift, Dorothy, Experience and Joseph.”37

• One of the first settlers in Westerly, Rhode Island. First pastor of the Hopkinton Church founded in 1708.2571
