• Served under Capt. Benjamin Church in King Philip’s War as Lieutenant; was a blacksmith by trade; Lieutenant of Militia and held at various times offices of Town Clerk and Selectman; after the defeat of King Philip at Mount Hope he went to Bristol where he opened an “ordinary” (or Inn) or a house of entertainment; was Vestryman of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1724.42

• He lived in Plymouth until 1680, when he moved to Bristol, R. I. [He] was a blacksmith and cooper, and carried on a large business in Bristol. At the first town-meeting for the transaction of general business (Nov. 10, 1681) Jabez Howland was chosen town clerk, and the following June he was elected selectman.46

• Also connected with Wannamoisett, was Jabez Howland, who moved from Plymouth to Bristol, Mass. (now located in Rhode Island). When he moved, he took his widowed mother along and left her at the James Brown house in Wannamoisett. Jabez, Howland child number eight, then went on to Bristol, where he settled on what in now Hope Street, the main thoroughfare, where he was a blacksmith and farmer.1790

• ...Jabez who lived in the house at 33 Sandwich Street in Plymouth now owned by The Pilgrim John Howland Society. This house built by Jacob Mitchell about 1667, was sold to Jabez Howland who lived there with his family until he moved to Bristol, R.I. in 1680.
...it now is the only house left standing in Plymouth where Pilgrims actually lived.3371
