• Chico Weekly Enterprise, Friday Evening, March 30, 1888, pg 3, col 3: The Remains of Charley Ormsby Arrived. Mr. and Mrs. Ormsby arrived last night with the remains of their dear son Charley. This is another family with the sunlight of the household faded and gone, and we deeply sympathize with them in their sorrow. The following notice of the death we take from the Tucson Citizen, of March 26th:
No sadder death has occurred here, than that of little Charles G. Ormsby, son of Manager Ormsby of the W.U. Office, whose gentle spirit passed from its earthly tenement to a better life, at 12 o'clock today. For the past two weeks he has been prostrated with diphtheria, but no danger was apprehended as the little fellow, although weak was believed to be slowly but surely recovering. A few moments before his death he said to his father, who was standing near him, "Papa, I feel so tired," and immediately expired.
The grief of the stricken parents is intense, he being their only child, death having bereft them of a promising boy but six short years ago, and today witnessed the loss of their earthly all. Charley, aged 11 years and four months at the time of his death, was a manly and interesting boy, dearly beloved by his parents and all who knew him, and his sudden demise will fill all hearts with sorrow. The body will be shipped to Chico, Cal., for burial, to which place it will be accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ormsby tonight.
