• DIVORCED MRS. HOPKINS IS MARRIED, LITTLE SON GIVING MOTHER AWAY
Port Huron, Mich., Sept. 23 – Before an assemblage of select guests in the old Mills homestead in Marysville today, 11-year-old Mark Hopkins gave the hand of his mother, Mrs. Margaret M. Hopkins, in marriage to George K. Barnes, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Detroit.
The bride is a sister of Myron Mills, the M. U. R. magnate, a daughter of the late Nelson Mills and divorced wife of Walter Hopkins, of St. Clair. Their divorce of about a year ago was a society sensation. Mrs. Hopkins was the one who obtained the decree, on the score of her husband’s drinking habits.342

• The interest of Margaret M. Barnes, deceased, is assigned by George K. Barnes, widower, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mark Hopkins, son by former marriage. These are sole heirs. They are on the record in Ogemaw County as legatees and owners of the Margaret Mills Barnes 1/5 undivided interest in the Mills lands in Richland and Mills townships.51

In 1907 she was married to George K. Barnes, salesman; approximately five years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Barnes came to Cincinnati, where they have lived ever since. No children were born to this union. Mrs. Barnes had one son, Mark Hopkins, Los Angeles, by a previous marriage.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Needlework Group, Maternal Society and New Thought Temple, Grandview Avenue and McMillan Street.
Besides her son and her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Myron W. Mills, Marysville, Mich., and David W. Mills, Los Angeles, and two sisters, Mrs. James R. Elliott, Glendale, Calif., and Mrs. William B. James, Port Huron, Michigan.
